From Russia with Love

Some are still around: the good news from Russia.
This one is about an unconventional artist, who refused to stop painting exactly what he finds appealing and is most interested in: The fascination of the male nude portrait Sergey Sovkov, born 1972, lives and works in Tolyatti, a city on the shores of the Volga, which is known mostly for their large automobile industry. From 1997 until 2004 Sergey Sovkov passed through a classic academic education in fine arts, which he completed in 2004 at the internationally renowned State Academy ‘Repin’ in St. Petersburg.
A crucial element of his work is, besides still lives and cityscapes, the male nude portrait, in drawings, pastels and above all painted in oil. Whereas these stand out due to their specific and unmistakable technique; especially their richness and choice of colours are a reminder to figural mosaics or expressionistic stained-glass windows.
Without doubt his models are Russian men, who are depicted in their natural environment. That is in Putins weird empire already a fact, which falls under the outlandish laws of ‘homosexual propaganda’. The consequence being that Sergey Sovkov had to resign from his post as a lecturer for fine arts.

Am Donnerstag, den 26. Februar, ab 20 Uhr beginnt planmäßig die Ausstellung „From Russia with Love“ von Sergey Sovkov. Allen Widrigkeiten zum Trotz sind die Exponate und der Künstler inzwischen wohlbehalten in München angekommen. Wir haben eine kleine Auswahl der Werke vorab zusammengestellt, um einen ersten Überblick über diese Ausstellung zu vermitteln. Alle Exponate mit Bemaßungen und Preisen veröffentlichen wir wie gewohnt am Abend der Ausstellungseröffnung. Wir freuen uns auf Ihren Besuch.

On Thursday, the 26nd of February at 8 pm we will open our exhibition ‘From Russia with Love’ by Sergey Sovkov. Against all the odds his artworks and the artist himself have safely arrived in Munich. We have arranged a small selection of his work in order to give you a brief perspective of this outstanding artist. As usual you will find all artwork on show, together with the prices, on the evening of the opening in our web shop. We are looking forward to welcome you in our gallery and web shop.

Traditionell eröffnen wir am letzten Donnerstag des Novembers unsere 30×30-Ausstellung – dieses Jahr zum zwölften Mal in Folge. Sie wird dieses Jahr etwas kleiner ausfallen und wir lockern auch die bisher ausschließliche Hängung in 4er oder 9er Blöcken, so dass wir nunmehr auch Einzelstücke und Reihen zeigen können.

Die Künstler sind wieder vielfältig vertreten von A wie Alexander von Agoston bis Z wie Zombie. Jeden einzelnen teilnehmenden Künstler stellen wir in unserem NewsBlog ausführlicher vor.
Wir zeigen in dieser sehr speziellen Ausstellung wieder einmal Gemälde, Aquarelle, Zeichnungen und Fotografien in einem Format, das unsere Mütter und Väter als das Langspielplatten-Cover bezeichnet hätten und die sind ja per se Kunstwerke.

30 x 30 No: 12
Group Exhibition

In keeping with tradition we are opening on the last Thursday of November the ‘30 x 30’ exhibition – in it’s 12th succession. In contrast to the previous years, the new presentation of the work allows showcasing a smaller collection of predominantly single artworks.

A multifaceted group of artists, from A such as Alexander von Agoston to Z such as Zombie, are presenting a diverse range of works. We will feature each of the partaking artists more detailed in our forthcoming news blog.
This specific exhibition showcases again oil and water paintings, drawings and photographs in a format, which our peers would have labelled as vinyl covers – art works in itself.

Munich IV
Historical streetscapes by Herbert Wendling
10 – 27 October 2014

For the fourth time in a row now, we are presenting a selection of historical streetscapes by Herbert Wendling. The exhibition of photographs was prepared in co-operation with Edition Grabsdorf, a gallery and publishing house and the curator of the Wendling archives.

On show will be black and white photographs of the city Munich from the mid 1930s through to the 1960s. Next to motifs which may already be called classics, streetscapes will be shown that never have been on display before. Quite intentionally, none of the photographs have been “prettified” electronically, and they all will be available in various sizes and printed on different materials.

The photographs portray a Munich that is hard to imagine today. It is a city that has not yet been smartened up and slicked over, the landmarks and sights still display their simple beauty. Of particular interest are the post-war views and the efforts of rebuilding Munich.
The opening will held on Friday, 10 October, beginning 8 p.m. You are kindly invited to join us then, or to come and see the exhibition until 27 October. As usual, all the works displayed are also on view in our web shop. We are looking forward to your visit.

Together with the exhibition comes a 2015 calendar with 13 historical photographies.
